The popular Regent Street restaurant Tatties has served its last spud.

It will be sorely missed by students who have helped consume 832 tons of potatoes over 16 years. Owner Mike Lambourn-Brown said: "It has been wonderful, with great loyalty from town and students. I'm looking for a smaller place so I can start an over-the-counter service and keep the costs down."

The new tenants of the Regent Street buiding will be the restaurant chain Sticky Fingers - a new Hard Rock Cafe-style diner - which is backed by Rolling Stone, Bill Wyman.

For those who don't know, Tatties re-opened a little while ago and now does full evening waitress service, and is licensed. The menu has been extended, it's not just baked potatoes any more, although they are still available of course!

We had a complete room (upstairs) to ourselves, which was non-smoking. Smokers can go into the next room to smoke if they're desperate ...

Order the sausages and mash for the dinner to raise the most laughs.

It's two days later, and I've only now got over the enormous amount of excellent cheap food. Definitely a venue worthy of a return visit.
